King of Jasmine Silver Needle

King of Jasmine Silver Needle

This is a sample of a scented white tea I got at World Tea Expo. I will be selling it in the tea bar and at RedLodgeTea.com within a couple of weeks. Love it!

Delicate; fragrant
I’m a sucker for jasmine;
White tea more than green

2005 Vietnamese Shu Pu-erh

2005 Vietnamese Shu Pu-erh

This posts kicks off the new “haiku tea reviews” section of my blog. I’m going to begin with a 2005 Vietnamese Shu “Pu-erh.” I use the quote marks because, technically, if it isn’t from the Yunnan province of China, it isn’t pu-erh; it’s dark tea. Nonetheless, this is a very nice aged ripe fermented tea, and a good start to the section:

Light color; rich taste
Every infusion unique
Where do I get more?

Yes, by the way, I’ll be using the 5/7/5 haiku structure here rather than the more modern American freestyle form. I learned it as 5/7/5 and it’s still what I like to write best.

Twitter and Facebook

I have made a few changes to my social media presence. I had a single feed on Twitter that contained all of my personal and writing tweets in addition to my tea-related tweets. I’ve now created a separate Twitter account just for tea stuff that shares its name with this blog.

Please follow TeaWithGary on Twitter for tea tweets.

I’ve also split my bookstore/tea bar on Facebook. Red Lodge Tea has everything related to tea, and Red Lodge Books has everything related to books and toys.

Please hit that “like” button for Red Lodge Tea on Facebook, and visit the store’s website.

Thanks!

Purple tea update

In August, I wrote about the new purple tea from Kenya, and opined that it would probably be a while before I got hold of some. Luckily for me, my blog post caught the eyes of the right people, and there’s a kilo of purple tea on its way to me as we speak. As of next week, Red Lodge Books will be the first tea bar in the U.S. offering purple tea. At $16.00/ounce, it certainly isn’t cheap, but it will be the cornerstone of our new super-premium tea line.

Once it arrives and I have a chance to taste it, I’ll post more information and put up links for purchasing purple tea.

[UPDATE Nov 2011: We have received the Royal Purple Tea and I’ve added a blog post describing it.]

[UPDATE May 2012: Our new tea bar website is up and running, and Royal Purple Tea is available for purchase now.]

More on Earl Grey tea

I’ve added an addendum to the Earl Grey tea post I made a few days ago. This seems to be going down just like the “Coke Classic/New Coke” story!
